Drop Everything and Read!

Thursday 15th November was the final day of our two week readathon. Over the past two weeks we have focused even more on reading and our parents were invited to join their children to read in the library. On Thursday we had our drop everything and read day. Children were able to come to school in their pyjamas, for a small donation to Alder Hey Hospital, and there were lots of reading related activities including drop everything and read. This meant that at various times during the day an announcement was made for everyone to “Drop everything and read!”.

Remembrance Assembly

There was an assembly this week to remind us of why we wear poppies at this time of year.

Ever since the first Remembrance Day, people have followed the same tradition: every year on 11th November they stop for a short moment of silence and reflection. Poppies became used as a way to remember soldiers who died in battle, because of how the flowers sprung up and grew on the barren battlefields of World War One.

Did you know that Jelly Babies were introduced in 1918 to celebrate the end of war? Back then, they were known as ‘Peace Babies’ They each have a symbol on them which stand for different things to do with peace.

Harvest Celebration

A HUGE thank-you to everyone who sent in food for our harvest celebration. All over the school there were bags full of food which will be donated to the local food bank. Cheryl from the Church Army joined us to talk about the harvest time message.
