At Monksdown Primary all the classes learn French with Awa.
In our French lessons we play games, we sing songs, we read stories, and we have a lot of fun while we are learning.

Year 1 were told a number in French then had to find it on a number tile.
Year 4 had to follow instructions given to them in French.
We learn some “Greetings” We learn how to say our name, say hello, goodbye and how are you? We learn about animals, body parts and how to count to 10.
We consolidate what we have learnt in Reception. We learn how to address people and say where we live: J’habite a Liverpool. We can name some barnyard animals, colours and count to 20.
We learn simple maths and recognise numbers out of a sequence. We learn words for toys and members of our family. We read and act out a story called “Ours Polaire” and learn new finger rhymes like “Bonjour Papa”…
We learn words for transport, clothes, days of the week, food and drink, animals and their habitats. We read and act out stories such as ”Une Histoire or “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. We learn new finger rhymes and songs such as ”Tapent petites mains”.
We learn months of the year and say when our birthday is. Count and manipulate numbers up to 69. Revise animals and say what pet we we’ve got or would like. learn about European countries and nationalities. Say what the weather is. Say the time on the hour. We read and act out a story called ” The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly”.
We learn to describe someone physically. Revise body parts in the written form. Count numbers up to 100. Say the time on the hour, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We learn the names of some food and drink and how to order food in a restaurant or buy things from a shop.
We consolidate what we have learnt in Year 5 and add new things. Count and manipulate numbers up to 100.
We revise previous topics to prepare for our Assessments in the four key skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking.
