Our Vision

At Monksdown Primary school we are committed to delivering an inspirational curriculum that develops confident learners. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and be proud of their achievements, which will in turn prepare them for life in Britain and today. It is our aim to provide the children of Monksdown with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills they need to live healthy, safe, productive, fulfilled and responsible lives. It is vital that we offer every opportunity to ensure that all of our pupils get the support they need to reach their full potential. As a school, we use a whole school , ‘JIGSAW’ approach .Jigsaw PSHE helps promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. This ensures a curriculum that brings out the best in everyone. As educators, we are aware that we have a huge responsibility in aiding the development of the citizens of tomorrow. Every day we are helping to shape each young person that we come into contact with. We are key to supporting the children becoming moral, well-behaved, healthy, successful and critical individuals. We do this by the way we talk to each other and to the children, the behaviours we display, the expectations we have and the attitudes that we encourage. We promote our school as a ‘calm’ school. All members of staff conduct themselves in a ‘calm’ manner and are consistently reminding the children of our whole school ethos.
We believe that enabling the children to access an engaging, creative and relevant curriculum has a positive effect on the childrens’ motivations, aspirations and achievement across all areas of the curriculum. Resourcefulness, Resilience, Respectfulness and Responsibility are all qualities championed by our school. Children are encouraged to be independent learners, to persevere even when things get tough, they are reminded to show respect to themselves, others and their environment.

Furthermore, they are encouraged to take as much responsibility for themselves as possible in regards to their own behaviour, their work and for having all of the necessary equipment, such as PE kits, homework and reading books.
