School Council Meeting

SCHOOL NOTICES:

School Council Meeting

Last week, our school council met to discuss important events and issues within our school.

The school council is an essential part of our school community, feeding back opinions and discussions from peers to Mrs Hayes, our school council leader. Mrs Hayes then takes any important issues or suggestions to our school leadership.

Keep up the good work guys!

Pop Project Visit

In the last week before our Easter break, we had a visit from the amazing Pop Project.

Whilst wowing our children with live hits, the children also learned important lessons about being fair and kind.

Extension Grand Opening!

On Friday 29th of March, as Canon Todd remarked, the grand exit from the EU didn’t happen, but there was a grand occasion at our school when our new extension was declared officially open!

Amongst the guests were some of our children, councillors, council representatives, staff and governors. Once the opening ceremony finished, guests were provided with tea, coffee, juice, biscuits and cakes. They then had a chance to explore our new building, where videos were playing of the construction of the building, as well as our infant building and historic photographs.

MP Stephen Twigg Visit

Last week we were honoured to have MP Stephen Twigg come to our school and nearly complete extension..

He spoke to our school councillors, was given a tour of the school by our children, and even had time for a school dinner and a chat about the school history.

We are looking forward now to the official opening of our school extension this week.

Football Success!

Our Football Team recently enjoyed a roaring success whilst playing at Cardinal Heenan on 11/3/19.

The Monksdown team not only won the game without the other team scoring, but managed to achieve a massive 11-0 lead!

Let’s hope our luck holds as we keep working our way through the league.

World Book Day

We had a great World Book Day, everybody came in green, and we had Jason Bereford, author of the Fabulous Four Fish Fingers visit us.

EYFS and Key Stage 1 all dressed in green, and Key Stage 2 dressed up as superheroes.

Musical Futures Champion School Status

D0U4ikBXQAAU8sLWe are very proud to announce that Mr Wilson has been awarded ‘Musical Futures Champion Teacher’ Status, and his efforts have also secured our school the ‘Musical Futures Champion School’ status! We are the 15th UK school to receive this worldwide recognised award, and the only UK primary school outside of London to be awarded this accolade so far.

Musical Futures lessons involve playing real world instruments such as keyboard, guitar, ukulele, drumkit, percussion and electric instruments to modern and relevant songs as a whole class. Children change instruments both during and in different lessons, and culminate their efforts in a final lesson performance.

Mr Wilson said, “I am very proud of how our children rise to such a high level music performance in class, which requires strong ensemble/listening skills. The children show clear resilience to the musical tasks they face every lesson, they know its challenging, but they always find it enjoyable, and the final lesson performances leave the children on a high every time”.

Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day

On 1st February, we held an awareness day for Muscular Dystrophy. All our children looked amazing in their orange and bright colours, and each child made a donation that will go towards a charity that supports Muscular Dystrophy.
